Iconic Belgian design down to the last detail
In a competitive hospitality market, it is all about experience. Hotels invest in interiors, lighting and technology to surprise and seduce their guests. In doing so, they pay increasing attention to details that really make a difference, such as high-end switching material. With the launch of Niko Rocker and Niko Toggle, Niko is taking switching to the next level. These new switches combine iconic Belgian design with modern technology, adding subtle but unmistakable value to any hotel interior.
'You only have one chance to make a good impression' - and this is certainly true in the hotel sector. More and more high-end hotels are therefore opting for switches that are not only functional, but also offer a sensory experience. "Design switches are no longer an afterthought. They are a tangible part of the experience you offer your guests," says Wim Gielen, product manager of design at Niko. "With our new Niko Rocker and Niko Toggle, we want to give hoteliers the opportunity to infuse their style and vision even in the smallest details."
Inspired by a 1958 design, the Niko Rocker looks timeless with its clean lines and high-quality metal finish. The switch produces a distinct 'click' when used, adding to the sense of control and quality. In turn, the Niko Toggle references the classic rocker switches of the 1920s, adding a contemporary finesse. "With its joystick-like operation and refined texture, it is an elegant piece of nostalgia in a modern twist," Gielen explains.
Hotels are increasingly looking for ways to extend their brand identity into the interior as well. Niko's switchgear perfectly matches that ambition. "We offer finishes in brushed aluminium and painted steel, in different colours such as gold, black and champagne. So every hotel can choose a look that matches its architectural style, from a minimalist boutique hotel to a luxurious five-star resort," Gielen points out.
The use of aluminium and steel contributes not only to aesthetics, but also to durability. And that is an important criterion for hotels that opt for long-term quality and ecological responsibility. "On that front, they are definitely in the right place with Niko," says Gielen.
Although Niko Rocker and Niko Toggle hark back to iconic switch designs from the last century, they are completely contemporary in terms of technology. Both models can be seamlessly integrated into Niko's automation solution, Niko Home Control. This makes it possible to easily group and automate lighting, ventilation or other functions - such as curtains or mood settings - based on the time of day or the guest's desired comfort level.
"A hotel room should feel intuitive for the guest, but at the same time remain efficient for the staff," says Gielen. "With these switches, we bring together usability, ambience and functionality in one elegant unit." A subtle but clever detail is the optional LED indicator: a warm glow that discreetly indicates whether a switch is active. This increases ease of use, especially when orientating at night or for guests who are not familiar with the room layout.
In an industry where every detail counts, more and more hoteliers are opting for a premium overall experience. Niko Rocker and Niko Toggle offer just that: characterful design, sensory interaction and technological sophistication. Produced entirely in Belgium, partly by hand, they reflect more than a hundred years of expertise in design and innovation.
"With these switches, you show as a hotel that you have an eye for detail and a sense of style," Gielen concludes. "They are designed to stand out, but above all to blend perfectly into their surroundings."
