With a wide range of floor coverings and over a hundred years of experience, Tarkett is the partner of choice for new construction and renovation projects. The options for personalisation are endless, and those who care about the planet and their fellow man are bound to find sustainability initiatives. The perfect blend of quality, aesthetics and vision, which you can admire today at the Double Tree by Hilton Brussels City hotel.
What started in 1885 in Malmö as a woodworking company for furniture, grew over the past century into a European market leader in various floor coverings. In the 21st century, Tarkett further conquered the European market and today its floors and walls can be found in 100 countries. The company also stands strong in the hospitality sector: its robust yet elegant floor coverings find their way into boutique hotels, luxury chains, restaurants and bars. "We are experts in flexible flooring," says Gregory Van Overmeeren, key account manager projects at Tarkett. "From homogeneous and heterogeneous PVC on roll over linoleum on roll, carpet on roll and carpet tiles to modular PVC such as luxury vinyl tiles (LVT)."
By distinguishing different segments, Tarkett can address specific needs for each type of project. For instance, the flooring giant focuses on Workplace, Hospitality, Health and Aged care, Education, Sport and Home. Gregory: "In hospitality, carpet is prevalent in all its facets. Think personalised woven or printed carpet on rolls or standardised carpet tiles. Because of several unique properties, carpet is a smart choice in different areas of a hotel." For example, carpet is standard flooring in corridors to improve acoustics to reduce noise pollution. In rooms, it brings a warm feeling, although LVT and wood are also popular there. For every area in your hotel, Tarkett has a suitable product. In particular, the type of hotel and the specific room determine which material is used.
When Double Tree by Hilton Brussels City's project coordinator knocked on Tarkett's door, together they selected several floor coverings. The building - a Pandox property - was completely renovated into a high-end hotel. Gregory: "In the corridors, a personalised Axminster carpet was chosen. We developed the design together with the architect-designer and the site coordinator, and it fits perfectly with the atmosphere in the hotel. After a few designs, we make samples and develop an installation plan. So every hotel finds a floor with us that is unique to its building."
In the entrance hall of Double Tree by Hilton Brussels City, modular PVC was installed in a herringbone pattern. This floor from the standard collection is cut to size to fit the elegant pattern. In the process, all cutting losses are recovered and processed at Tarkett's own recycling centre located at the production facility. "Not only these losses, we also recover the used floor from the market for recycling," Gregory explains. This is part of Tarkett's ReStart programme.
"We follow the cradle-to-cradle principle, producing floors with responsible, non-toxic materials that are safe for people and the environment. We use recycled materials as much as possible and design our products with a view to reuse as new raw materials at the end of their life cycle. In addition, we are committed to responsible water management and generate renewable energy for our production sites. Working conditions are very important to us; every Tarkett floor is manufactured under fair conditions and at a fair wage. All this contributes to the quality and enjoyment of the final product."
