Sustainable hygiene in practice: Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp
Cleaning practices in hotels are changing rapidly. Sustainability takes centre stage, while chemical products are losing ground. “Hotels want to clean efficiently and sustainably, without chemicals,” says Nadia Paulovich, CEO of HYLA Belgium BV. “Our equipment, such as the HYLA EST air and room cleaning system and the HYLA Steam Cleaner, offers an innovative and environmentally friendly alternative for this.”
At Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp, a five-star superior hotel and member of The Leading Hotels of the World, both systems are now part of the daily cleaning. “The level of cleaning in our hotel had to go up,” says Louise Weber, executive housekeeping manager. “We were immediately enthusiastic about HYLA's products. The HYLA EST in particular exceeded our expectations.”
HYLA EST works on the principle of natural water filtration. Dust, dirt and allergens are captured directly in water, giving them no chance to re-circulate in the room.
The HYLA EST combines vacuuming, air purification and deep cleaning in one system. Carpets, mattresses, curtains and furniture are thoroughly cleaned without damaging precious materials. At the same time, the system filters dust, pollen, house dust mites and other allergens from the air. So guests enjoy not only a clean, but also a healthy stay.

In addition to the HYLA EST, Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp also uses the HYLA Steam Cleaner. “The steam cleaner works exclusively with water,” Weber explains. “By converting it into dry steam at 170 °C and at a pressure of 7 bar, it removes grease, dirt and bacteria deep into pores and joints, without chemicals. This is both better for the environment and for our cleaning staff.”
The steam cleaner is used in various hotel areas: in kitchens to remove grease and deposits, in restaurants for clean tables and floors, in bathrooms to prevent limescale and mould, and in guest rooms for deep cleaning of carpets and curtains. “Especially in bathrooms, the steam cleaner works great,” says Weber. “There is a lot of lime in our water and the steam removes that effortlessly.”
The hotel received extensive training and uses the machines on days when there are fewer guests. “It is slightly more intensive work, but the results are impressive. Guests notice it immediately and often say it smells so fresh here. Our staff explain that we work with HYLA and allergic guests can see the HYLA certificate. So they can be sure of an extra thorough cleaning.”

Hotel guests“ expectations are higher than ever, and hygiene plays a leading role in this. More and more hotels see HYLA equipment not just as cleaning technology, but as an investment in trust, comfort and health. ”For us, it is important that hotels not only clean, but also contribute to health and sustainability,“ Paulovich concludes. ”With HYLA, that can go together perfectly."
