20 years of Vitalpina® Hotels South Tyrol

Anniversary year with numerous highlights at the affiliated hotels

Grown together, proud together

A reason to celebrate at Vitalpina® Hotels South Tyrol: precisely twenty years ago, a number of ambitious hoteliers joined forces with a shared vision of a holiday close to nature, with sustainability at its core. The collaboration now comprises around thirty South Tyrolean hotels, each representing authentic nature experiences, holistic relaxation, and a strong connection to the region. Movement, rest, conscious cuisine with local products, and traditional wellness treatments based on the treasures of the Alps form the common thread within the affiliated hotels. The shared philosophy rests on three pillars: a mindful lifestyle, regional anchoring, and sincere hospitality. Strict quality criteria guarantee the high standard and ensure guests can count on a relaxing stay.

To celebrate the anniversary, 2026 will be a year of special experiences at participating hotels. For instance, the Hotel Schulerhof is inviting guests to a sunrise hike with a mountain breakfast until early August. DAS GERSTL Alpine Retreat is organising the weekly ‘Alpine Reset’ in the summer, featuring a hike to a mountain lake and a cold-challenge, as well as the ‘Chef's Talk & Kitchen Stories’ with chef Michael Ziernheld. At the Hotel Gassenhof, guests can experience a atmospheric light spectacle in the Gilfenklamm gorge, while the Cyprianerhof Dolomit Resort will be staging a specially produced opera at the foot of the Rosengarten on five summer evenings.

Brigitte Zelger, Chairwoman of the hotel cooperative and hostess of the Green Luxury Hotel Pfösl in Deutschnofen, says: “This anniversary fills me with pride and gratitude. It confirms that we made the right choices twenty years ago. Nature, being active, wellbeing, healthy food, sustainability and respect for everything nature gives us have been at the core of our philosophy right from the start.”

She continues: „It remains the common thread in everything we do. Together we have grown, constantly developed and created new experiences. We want to continue doing this in the future: inspiring each other, learning from each other and offering our guests a complete holiday experience, right in the middle of the beautiful nature of South Tyrol. At the same time, we want to focus even more strongly on what is truly important. Appreciating what we have and preserving it with care, so that future generations can also enjoy it.”

Former Vitalpina Chairman Helmut Tauber, host at Aktiv & Vitalhotel Taubers Unterwirt in Feldthurns, adds: “You could say the Vitalpina Hotels are a part of my life. I've been involved with them wholeheartedly from the very beginning and am proud of what we've built together over the past twenty years. Our strength lies in the fact that we are not a classic hotel chain, but rather a group of family-run hotels, each managed with great passion. Each hotel has its own character and strengths, and it is precisely this diversity that has helped us develop a clear, shared vision. For me, the greatest added value lies in exchanging ideas with each other: learning from one another, inspiring each other, and jointly realising new ideas. What started as a small, driven group has grown into a renowned partnership.”

20 years Vitalpina® Hotels South Tyrol 3

A look back at the past twenty years shows how the Vitalpina® Hotels Südtirol have continuously developed without losing sight of their core values. In 2011, the first Vitalpina programme booklet, Durchatmen, was published, followed by the introduction of two own Vitalpina scent lines, developed in collaboration with Vitalis Dr. Joseph. In 2016, all affiliated hotels committed to the strict criteria of the EU Ecolabel, jointly laying the foundation for a more sustainable holiday offering. A year later, forest bathing was the focus of an expert workshop, which initiated various training sessions within the affiliated hotels.

New milestones followed in the years thereafter. In 2021, the Vitalpina Hotels became the first hotel cooperative to join the then-called climate alliance ‘turn to zero’. In 2022 and 2023, the new selfness programme ‘Berge spüren’ (Feel the Mountains) was developed and successfully launched. Between 2023 and 2025, a dedicated Vitalpina product line was developed, consisting of organic fruit bars, syrups, and an organic bread mix, in collaboration with local producers and PUR Südtirol. The most recent innovation is the ‘Vitalpina Balance Ritual’: a multi-sensory treatment that brings the Vitalpina philosophy to life in a new way.
