Miraval opens first international resort on the Red Sea

‘This is pure luxury’

The American wellness brand Miraval has opened its first resort outside the United States. Miraval The Red Sea is located on Shura Island in Saudi Arabia and combines luxury hospitality with a strong focus on wellness and sustainability.

Saudi Arabia has a notable international hotel opening to its name. On Shura Island, part of the large-scale Red Sea destination on the west coast of the country, Miraval The Red Sea has opened. The resort has been welcoming guests since May 2026 and marks a significant step for Miraval Resorts & Spas: it is the brand's first establishment outside the United States. This gives the international expansion of the Hyatt brand a clear starting point in the Middle East.

More than just an overnight stay.

Luxe

Miraval The Red Sea is an adults-only, all-inclusive wellness resort with 180 rooms, suites, and villas. The resort caters to travellers who seek luxury not only in comfort and service but also in peace, personal development, and health. Instead of a traditional resort programme, the stay revolves around mindfulness, movement, nutrition, creativity, and recovery. This opening aligns with a broader development within luxury hospitality: wellness is shifting from an ancillary facility to the central product.

At the heart of the resort is the Life in Balance Spa. Covering approximately 3,000 square metres and boasting 39 treatment rooms, this is, according to those involved, the largest spa on Shura Island. Facilities include treatment rooms, hydrotherapy, relaxation zones, a fitness studio, a culinary programme, and outdoor activities. There are also programmes focused on meditation, yoga, creative workshops and so-called challenge experiences. The spa is therefore not solely a revenue centre, but serves as the substantive backbone of the entire resort concept.

For Hyatt, the opening is strategically interesting. Miraval has so far been mainly known for resorts in the United States, including Arizona, Texas, and Massachusetts. With the move to Saudi Arabia, the brand gains an international showcase in a destination that is explicitly focusing on high-end tourism. The choice for The Red Sea is no coincidence. Saudi Arabia is investing heavily in tourism infrastructure and wants to position itself as a luxury destination for international travellers. Miraval adds a specific profile to this: not just sun, sea, and architecture, but also well-being, tranquility, and personal transformation.

Location

The location also plays a key role in the story. Shura Island is the central island within The Red Sea Project, a development by Red Sea Global. The destination is presented as an example of regenerative tourism. According to Red Sea Global, Miraval The Red Sea runs entirely on renewable energy and the resort aligns with the ambition to achieve a net conservation gain of 30 percent by 2040. These are strong claims that will need to be substantiated in practice, but they do indicate the positioning: luxury hospitality must here go hand-in-hand with nature conservation and long-term value for the destination.

For the international hotel market, the combination is particularly interesting. Miraval The Red Sea is simultaneously a brand expansion, a wellness case, and an example of how Saudi Arabia is using tourism as an economic and image-defining sector. The resort demonstrates how luxury hotels are increasingly differentiating themselves with substantive programming rather than just rooms, gastronomy, and location. The guest is not just buying a stay, but a carefully curated experience.

This gives the opening more news value than a classic resort launch. Miraval The Red Sea is a flagship hotel: it shows where international luxury hospitality is heading. Wellness is becoming more professional, destinations more ambitious, and hotel brands are seeking concepts that go beyond mere overnight stays. Whether Shura Island can fulfil that promise in the long term remains to be seen. But as an opening in 2026, Miraval The Red Sea is undoubtedly one of the more remarkable international hotel stories of the year.
