How DigitalGuest contributes to sustainability in hotels

Every year, concerns about environmental impacts grow. More and more industries, including the hospitality industry, are looking for ways to minimise their footprint and become more sustainable. Sustainability for hotels has become an important issue. But thanks to technology, hotels have come a long way and become more eco-friendly.

This is why DigitalGuest has created a digital platform, because we care a lot about sustainability in the hospitality industry. We focus on digitising the hospitality industry and eliminating paper waste.

We aim to contribute to the sustainable development of the hospitality industry.

In 2016, DigitalGuest began as a desire to replace old and dusty in-room guest books. As well as replacing all printouts, such as flyers and brochures, in hotels to reduce paper waste. A paperless solution offers many benefits for hotels, starting with saving money on paper, allowing staff to update information in seconds and, in general, reducing the carbon footprint.

At DigitalGuest, we are passionate about protecting the environment and conserving natural resources, so we want to make the hospitality industry more sustainable by switching from paper and print to a digital platform. We want to make hotel service so that guests have the option to, for example, choose whether they want new towels in the room or not, guests can opt out of daily housekeeping or order food in advance, allowing hotels to save on procurement and avoid food waste.

Our CSR strategy

Digitalisation of business operations and guest communication go hand in hand with more concrete measures and greater attention to the environment and responsibility. As part of our CSR strategy, DigitalGuest works with Forests of the World, which fights for a nature richer in animals and plants. So by using the DigitalGuest platform, you not only reduce paper waste but also contribute to the rebuilding of rainforests.

In 2015, the United Nations adopted Sustainable Development Goals towards 2030. In our view, DigitalGuest is in a unique position to contribute significantly to the global goals, which are close to our core business of expertise.

We have also entered into a fantastic partnership with Green Key that provides access to digital information about the venue's Green Key and environmental efforts. When a guest checks into a Green Key-certified hotel, the hotel's many green initiatives are displayed digitally. By presenting the Green Key through our platform, we further reduce the tourism industry's environmental footprint by eliminating print. Caring for the environment while meeting guests' digital accessibility needs and expectations - it's a win-win for everyone.

Examples of paperless solutions

A concrete example: the Skærbæk centre in Denmark has replaced guest books in rooms with a digital platform and now saves 5.4 tonnes of paper annually. Imagine how much paper and rainforest we could save if every hotel went digital!
