REOPENING OF AN ICON: THE MANOR HOTEL AMSTERDAM
In the heart of Amsterdam-Oost, The Manor Hotel is embarking on a new chapter. Today, the monumental icon on Linnaeusstraat officially reopened its doors as part of the Leonardo Limited Edition collection. This transformation marks Leonardo's first rebranding within a broader investment strategy, as the group continuously seeks opportunities to strengthen and renew its presence in the region. In this historic building – the birthplace of Johan Cruijff – heritage and contemporary energy meet in a setting of ‘casual luxury’. With the arrival of the renowned PepeNero restaurant under the same roof, The Manor Hotel has been transformed into a vibrant hotspot where locals and travellers come together for design, history, and authentic Italian cuisine.
The former Burgerziekenhuis and Buitengasthuis on the outskirts of the city, bordering the bustling Amsterdam-Oost, boasts a rich history and has always been a landmark in the neighbourhood. The imposing 19th-century building, once a beacon of care and the birthplace of the legendary Johan Cruyff, has been completely renovated into a stylish hotel where monumental grandeur and modern comfort blend seamlessly. A place where you sleep between characterful walls, dine in an Italian atmosphere, and feel the energy of the city as soon as you step out of the door. Oost thus has a new meeting place for city
travellers, locals and design enthusiasts alike.

At the helm of this transformation is General Manager Nicole Lagas, who, with her roots in Amsterdam's hospitality and local community, bridges the gap between the hotel and the city. “The Manor has that specific Amsterdam swagger,” says Lagas. “We've preserved the soul of this monumental building, but the energy is completely of this time. It's a place where you feel the history, but where you primarily come to make new memories. A home that belongs as much to the people of Amsterdam as it does to our international guests.”
Upon entering, you immediately feel the soul of the hotel, and its architectural stature is immediately palpable. Neudahm Design has cherished and enriched the monumental details such as the high ceilings, the wide corridors and the characteristic brickwork with a contemporary interior that feels warm and residential. The atmosphere is elegant, inviting and cosmopolitan; casual luxury with character.

The 125 rooms have each been individually renovated with meticulous attention to detail. These are not standard hotel rooms, but spaces with a distinct retro vibe; modern, cosy, and characterised by a ‘mid-century’ aesthetic. Rich materials, tactile surfaces, and layered details are central, reflecting the growing desire for comfort, character, and personal expression.
Next to the lobby is the renowned PepeNero. Under the guidance of host Daniele Lauritano, this Amsterdam favourite opened its second establishment here at the beginning of April. PepeNero has been a household name in the city for years; from Mick Jagger and Bono to the Ajax squad, the Amsterdam in-crowd knows the way to Daniele’s kitchen. From classic antipasti to the iconic pasta prepared at the table in a giant Parmesan cheese wheel; PepeNero brings authentic Italian passion to The Manor. With a bar and a sunny terrace on the bustling Linnaeusstraat, this is the meeting place for locals, guests and foodies where the creative energy of Amsterdam Oost comes together.
As well as rooms ranging from intimate city escapes to opulent Junior Suites, The Manor offers facilities to suit a modern lifestyle. For those seeking peace or invigoration, there is the high-tech gym. In this aesthetically designed space, you can work out on state-of-the-art fitness equipment while overlooking the green courtyard. The hotel also boasts a beautiful green inner garden and impressive rooms for high-end events, such as the historic Van Gendt Hall. With its rear garden adjoining the cosy ‘Oost’ district and the Oosterpark, and the city centre just a stone's throw away, The Manor offers the cosiest getaway and an ultimate Amsterdam experience at the same time. The Manor Amsterdam celebrated its Grand Opening on 9 June.
